Biography

Raffaele Romagnoli, Ph.D., specializes in optimal and robust control system theory. He obtained his doctorate from Universita鈥 Politecnica delle Marche in 2015. After a period in Belgium at the Universit茅 libre de Bruxelles in the Department of Control Engineering and System Analysis as a postdoc working on constrained control of Li-ion batteries, he moved to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) as a postdoc and then as a research scientist and instructor of the course Nonlinear Control. His research focuses on ensuring safety and security in cyber-physical systems, with a particular emphasis on the control aspect. Raffaele collaborates with CMU鈥檚 Software Engineering Institute on secure control for cyber-physical systems and scientific machine learning. He had collaborations with the University of Pittsburgh鈥檚 Hillman Cancer Center on modeling and control for cancer immunotherapy, and with Bosch Research Corporate, where he submitted two patent reports on networked control systems and edge-cloud computing. Raffaele is an IEEE member and serves on the Conference Editorial Board of the IEEE Control System Society. In recent years, he served as general and program co-chair of the International Workshop on Software Aging and Rejuvenation (WoSAR), co-located with the IEEE International Symposium on Software Reliability Engineering. He has also served as Guest-Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computing.
