Biography

Robert Herbert is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at 91制片厂. He also works with the Institute for Disability Empowerment and Advocacy (IDEA) at 91制片厂, where he mentors students to design and build assistive technology. He was previously an Assistant Professor at Louisiana State University and a postdoctoral researcher at Carnegie Mellon University. He received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and B.S. and M.S. from The Ohio State University. His background is in the design and development of soft electronics and additive manufacturing techniques, with points of emphasis across biomedical, robotic, and space applications. His research has spanned from implantable vascular sensors to space-grade soft electronics and has culminated in 3 patents and over 20 journal publications, including in Science Advances and Advanced Functional Materials. He was named a member of Georgia Tech鈥檚 2025 Class of 40 Under 40. Applying his background, he develops and teaches mechanical design courses with an emphasis hands-on, real-world, and meaningful experiences for students to learn and practice.
